Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, Thailand — Women in prison settings are a vulnerable group whose minimum standards for treatment are detailed in the United Nations Rules for the Treatment of Women Prisoners and Non-custodial Measures for Women Offenders (known as the “Bangkok Rules”) as well as in CEDAW recommendations. In the spirit of leaving no one behind, a central pledge of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, UN Women is advocating to promote the rights of women in detention and to shed light on the plight of this marginalized group.
