The Singapore Committee for UN Women is a self-funded non-profit organisation working towards women’s empowerment and gender equality. The organisation supports the general mission of UN Women by raising awareness and funding for Ending Violence Against Women, Economic Empowerment, and Governance and Leadership Programmes in Singapore and the region.
Established in 1997, the organisation originally functioned as a National Committee of the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM). In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. As part of this process, UNIFEM merged with other women’s entities under the United Nations to form UN Women, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact.
